Banpaku Kinen Koen Station (万博記念公園駅) is a station of the Tsukuba Express. Of the four stations in Tsukuba it is the most obscure.

LocationEdit

In the middle of rice paddies, in a valley to the west of the Tsukuba Seibu Kogyo Danchi industrial park. Despite its name, it is over 1 km from Banpaku Kinen Koen (Exposition Memorial Park), main site of the 1985 Tsukuba Expo. Ambitious commuters can walk the 1 km from the station up the hill to the industrial park.

The address is 茨城県つくば市島名4386 (Shimana 4386, Tsukuba-shi, Ibaraki-ken).

It is difficult to explain how to get there since there are few landmarks and streets don't have names, and there are no road signs pointing the way until you come within sight of the station. Basically, from Tsukuba Center follow Tsuchiura Gakuen Sen past 408, past Science Odori, and up the hill. At the fork in road in front of the automobile research institute take the narrow left road, passing the left side of the Family Mart. Follow this curvy narrow road for 1 km and you will encounter the overhead train tracks. Turn left under the tracks and the station is about 1 km ahead. The best advice on how to get there is to get on Tsukuba Express from somewhere else and take the train there, because it is well-hidden.

ParkingEdit

There are two hourly parking lots available. One is on the east entrance, in front of the big sculpture. The other is on the west entrance, slightly elevated, near the tracks about 300m from the station.
