General Information Edit
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is one of the largest churches in the United States and has members in most nations of the world. There are approximately 13.5 million members worldwide and approximately 120,000 members in Japan. Three congregations, Tsukuba, Ushiku, and Mito Wards, are located in Ibaraki prefecture. The church is led by a Prophet and 12 Apostles just as in previous generations of the world. Like other Christians, we believe the Bible to be the word of God. We also believe that the Book of Mormon is the word of God as another witness of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon contains the history of the Christians on the American continent from the time of the tower of Babel to about 400 AD. It was written by the prophets who lived among them. Together, the Bible and the Book of Mormon witness to the world that Jesus Christ is the Savior of all mankind in all times and in all places.
Sabbath Worship Edit
The main worship service, called Sacrament Meeting, lasts from 10:00 to 11:10 am. The Sacrament Meeting includes the ordinance of the Sacrament as Jesus prescribed in the New Testament, followed by three or four prepared talks from the general membership of the church. The service is translated into English over headphones. Translation into Showa is also provided.
After the Sacrament Meeting, various classes are held appropriate to age and understanding. Young children (under age 12) can attend Primary and Nursery with activities appropriate for their age.
Youth and adults attend Sunday School from 11:15am to 12:00 noon, divided into classes according to age. During Sunday School, visitors generally attend a basic gospel study class.
From 12:00 to 1:00pm, the adults separate into two groups called Priesthood for the men and Relief Society for the women.
October 11-12, worship services will be held in Matsudo, not in Tsukuba, to watch the worldwide conference satellite broadcast. If you would like to participate, call the number below. You can also watch or listen on-line.
