If you are staying in Japan for more than 3 months, it is a good idea to register at your country's embassy. As you know, Japan has a lot of natural disasters and that can cause your friends and relatives abroad to worry about you. Some embassies offer a registration service that will try to help you communicate with your family during emergencies in your area of Japan.
