Hi Ben,

We have a lot of repetitive events like this (Evening Forum, IWN Potluck) in Tsukuba. Rather than creating a whole new page every time for every event, how about if we just have a main page for the most current event and a single page for "Coffee Hour Archives" or something like that? Then we can create a link to the archives page from the main page.

I want to preserve the past information, but I don't think creating a new page every month is a good idea just from the point of the management of the wiki. Every time we create a new page, we should really link it to the others, or at least to the most current one, but keeping up the linking would be rather tedious.

I guess my concern is that events like this don't warrant 12 new pages every year (per event). I was concerned about this when I started the system for the International Women's Network. At first I made a page called "IWN Potluck September 2005" (or something like that) and then I realized that it would be easier to manage the information if there was a single page for the event which had the most current information on it, and then list the archives (just for the sake of preservation) on another page. This means that any reference in the rest of the wiki to "IWN Potluck" will take the user directly to the most current information.

Also, I think it would be best if people who search for "coffee hour" or "evening forum", etc. are brought directly to the most current one.

So, I agree that the preservation of the information is important (and I was also trying to think of a good way to save it after I ended up deleting it this morning -- the anonymous edits this morning were by me (my computer logged me off for some reason) -- but you beat me to it), but I think the management of the information needs to be done differently. If I promise to go back and make the appropriate changes, would this system be okay with you?

If the edit is done each month, then the coffee hour will be linked from each month's page. It was quite hard working out how to separate the two pages. I guessed it was you doing that edit since I didn't think anyone else had worked out all this "wiki format" stuff. But anyway, whatever system you like is OK to preserve the old article contents. --Ben 14:16, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)
