You may receive a small slip of information from your employer at the end of the year. This form is called "gen sen chou shuu" and it is a very important form for tax purposes because it is a record of all of your income and deductions from the past year. Please be sure to keep this form in a safe place.
The tax period runs from February 16 to March 15. The city hall usually offers tax counselling (in Japanese) during this period. Please see the city's newsletter for more information. (You may not have to file a tax return if you only have one job and your employer is deducting the taxes every month. Please see the tax guide for more information.)
