[edit] Checking for dead links

I am instituting a check for dead links using the www.dead-links.com dead link checker. This checker has a problem with a low timeout which means it returns links as dead when the response is slow. At some point I'll make User:TWERP check for dead links, but for now the dead link checker above does a reasonably good job.--Ben 04:24, 13 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Update:the dead link checker doesn't work too well on these pages because it follows all the dynamic links to index.php. I don't recommend trying it again.--Ben 09:41, 13 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Please make sure any link checkers abide by robots.txt since spidering every link is quite likely to slow the whole site down, especially if it is running too quickly. It should never touch /index.php URLs or Specialpages, for example. Angela (talk) 07:33, 5 Sep 2005 (UTC)
