Called "white ants" (shiro ari) in Japanese. They don't attack people, but they can eat away at wooden structures. Japanese houses are made of wood, so termites can be a problem.
What to do about termites[]
If your house has termite problems, you'll have to call a carpenter. Your rental agent or Joyful Honda can be helpful for contacting a carpenter or exterminator.
