SOGO has been breaking fresh ground in modern painting, grasping Japanese society, thoughts and people for more than 30 years. He is challenging the limitations of artistic expression by using letters and symbols in his paintings fearlessly and on purpose, using loud colors and powerful stokes of the brush, vibrant with life as if the pictures were jumping out of the canvases, dancing boisterously with extreme delight. In his paintings we can find irony and humor directed towards modern Japanese society. His works are large pieces which are very thought provoking and this show is an opportunity to see the width and breadth of his styles which are a reflection of an intriguing globalization of art and of the times we live in indeed.
